Tampa 2
What does Tampa 2 mean in American football?
Who is the real author of the Tampa 2 results?
Who takes part in the defense?
Tampa 2 is a variation of Cover 2 defense popularized by Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The roots of this system installed Pittsburgh footballers at the 1970s. But its peak belongs to the 1980s-2000s. The Pittsburgh fans doesn’t like Tampa for that. However, Buccaneers did all their best to improve the system.
Tampa 2 bases on the formation of four linemen, three linebackers with two cornerbacks and two safeties reserved. Typically it stresses speed and quick defensive line. But this defense is actual against run plays too. Tampa 2 relates to the single gap defenses. Faster and smaller linemen are used here. The defenders stop active runs rerouting the players to the weak-side linebacker.
