Targeting
What is targeting in American football?
What is penalty for targeting?
The targeting means that the player aims at an opponent for attack purposes. It involves a forcible contact beyond the legal edges.
The rules ban targeting and forcible contact against the opponent with the crown at its helmet. Any impact on the defenseless opponent is prohibited too and leads to a serious penalty. A player can’t attack the helmet, arm parts and shoulders.
The penalty here is too severe. Team A gets the 15-yard penalty. Their opponents may even get an automatic first down if they don’t have other fouls. The culprit is awarded with immediate disqualification. Its length depends on the half. If this foul happened in the first half, the player leaves the field to the end of the current game. If the player violates rules in the second half, it rests till the second half of the next scheduled game.
