Total offense

The total offense is not the formation but the very valuable statistic. It sums all rushing and passing yards for the player. This parameter differs from the yards from scrimmage. The latter calculates the receiver’s yardage but not throwers. We consider that the yards from scrimmage is part of total offense.

The sport analytics measure progress regarding the distance to the opposite goal line. But the team can gain progress also from the line of scrimmage. If the player rushes the ball, it gets rushing yards. The passer gets passing yards. All penalties and other non-play actions don’t contribute to the total offense.
