Turning facemask
A football player’s “face mask” is the part of their helmet that covers their face. It is usually made up of a grid of metal bars and padding. If a player grabs another player’s face mask during the game, they will get a “face mask” punishment. It’s against the law to do this, and it can hurt your neck.
The harshness of the punishment depends on what kind of face mask grab it was:
Face Mask By Accident: This is a less serious sentence that usually happens when a player accidentally grabs the face mask. It usually leads to a five-yard foul.
Person Foul Face Mask: This is a more serious offense that includes grabbing the face mask and twisting, turning, or pulling it on purpose. If someone does this, it’s a personal foul, and they will usually get 15 yards and sometimes get a free first down for their team.
By following these rules, players can avoid neck and head injuries that could happen if their heads are violently turned or jerked. The strict fines for wearing a face mask show how important player safety is in the sport.
