Under front
What does under front mean in American football?
How many different techniques will you see on the field?
If the team is under front, it uses 4-3 defensive formation.
The combination includes two defensive ends for both sides, two tackles and three linebackers. One tackle is defensive and the other is a nose. Each defender is responsible for the certain gap from A to D correspondingly. This formation is a single gap. It differs from other combinations which are hybrid ones. That’s why it’s simpler for the players to realize.
Each lineman uses a specific technique for its position. The techniques are numbered with numbers from 0 to 9. The 0-technique supposes activity close to center and 9 is a wide technique. We’ll describe some of them in detail. Follow us!
The 0 shade is distinctive for the nose tackle. The defensive tackle uses 2i technique in guard’s shoulder or 3-technique outside them. Finally, ends play at 5, 6, 7 or 9-technique.
The open or closed options depend on the current situation. To get closed call, the offense has to break the huddle. The defensive coordinators identify each tight end going close during the week before the game. All other situations are open.
