Veer
What does veer mean in American football?
Who is a victim of the veer?
Veer is optional offensive play in American football. Its author is Houston Cougars coach Bill Yeoman.
This classical play is run on the high school level. The collegiate and professional teams transformed it into a zone blocking combination. Most of them apply the inverted veer combination. The option enlarges the quarterback’s reads based on the reactions of different defenders.
Three players take part in classical veer. Each of them uses its own route – drive, pitch. The third player is a lead blocker. After QB gets the snap, it follows the opening up actions. It includes starting from the stance and pivot run toward the faced side. Then it meets with a halfback at mesh point,
It discovers the veer main idea. The linebacker or defensive end remains unblocked read target for the quarterback. That causes choice for the defender. It may try to cover the quarterback or the uncovered man, The final result is usually a pitch or dive. All operations take a few seconds. Some moments remain unnoticed.
