Verical strectch

In American football, the term “vertical stretch” describes a passing scheme where the offence overloads the deep zones of the defence by using vertical routes. This tactic aims to produce vertical stretches on any linebackers underneath and horizontal reads on the safety. To put this into practice, one receiver goes into the flats as the others dive in. The New York Giants, for instance, has employed a similar strategy in which quarterback Daniel Jones reads two seams against a single safety look, setting up a vertical stretch for the free safety in the centre and, should the matchup be favourable, possibly taking a shot on one of the fades outside.
