Teams who retired number 14
Several teams retired number 14 from the inner circuit. For example, the New York Giants retired it twice. First, it happened in 1946 when Ward Cuff ended his career. When Giants traded for Y.A. Title in 1961, the player requested number 14 and the club provided it to him. After the quarterback finished his career in 1964, the club retired 14 again to honor both players.

Cleveland Browns retired the number in honour of Otto Graham, and Packers enrichened Don Hutson. The Chargers keep the memory about Dan Fouts. All players listed here except Cuff are members of Hall of Fame.

Who wore inaugurational number 14

The end Bob Marshall was the first player who wore number 14 in NFL history. He played for Rock Island Independents. Later, he also appeared in another defunct team, Duluth Kelleys, in 1925, but his number there has yet to be discovered.

The last player who wore number 14 before the AV implementation
The NFL implemented an approximate value system in 1960, so we mention here all players who retired or wore the number before this year. In the case of number 14, it’s Billy Cox. He came to Washington Redskins in 1951 and wore these digits in that season. His main position was strong safety, but he showed himself best in punting. He gained 1299 yards, releasing 33 punts in his short career. The player missed two seasons in 1953 and 1954, but the reason is unknown. He returned to Redskins in 1955 but generated zero efficiency. Thus, he retired that year.

Top-5 players with highest AV. Number 14

We have the honour to start the list with Hall of Famer, who spent his entire career in the Chargers when the team dislocated in San Diego – Dan Fouts. This quarterback didn’t participate in or win the Super Bowl but was a good passer. Every regular season game helped the team to gain 237 yards on average. He scored 254 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing in regular season games. The player was nominated in different nominations but won only one Offensive Player of the Year title in 1982. He was a part of 5 Pro Bowls.

The quarterback played for the Bengals from 1971 to 1986. Sometimes, he had a battle with Dan Fouts from the Chargers. These were two of 9 total playoff passing touchdowns and 1 rushing in decisive games. 1981 was his brightest time because several agencies considered him MVP plus he won some other awards.

Steve Grogan – 117 AV

Steve Grogan had a modest career in the NFL as quarterback of the New England Patriots. He led his team to the dream but lost the 1985 championship game against the Chicago Bears.
