Win probability added
What is win probability added in gridiron?
How does WPA changes the team B interferes team A?
The Win Probability Added measures each play on changes of winning chances. It bases on the WP model of the game. Here the stats include the quarter, score, down, type of play and distance. WPA is the difference between the start and the end of current play. Let’s check for examples.
Team A is down by 7 points. It starts the 2nd quarter with 2nd&5 down on their 25-yard point. A has 36% chances to win with WP of 0.36. Their players provided 30-yard forward pass, gained 1st&10 and ended the play at the opponent’s 45-yard line. The team A now has WP 0.39. WPA is +0.03. If team B release the interception and return the ball to A’s side, its WPA becomes -0.08.
