Captain’s armband

Captain’s armband is a piece of fabric worn around the upper arm that shows who the captain of each team is. If the captain is substituted, this is passed to another player.

The armband is simply a symbol of captaincy which shows the crowds and the players who to look at for inspiration as it their responsibility to be a role model for the fellow players. It is just a sign of who the captain is, for the referee and for those watching the game, similar to a yellow jersey for the leader of Tour de France, which is given to the current race leader at the end of each day, as a symbol.
