What is Heavy Metal Football?
What does “Heavy Metal Football” describe?
Who is the term coined by?
Heavy Metal Football is a term coined by the current Liverpool FC manager, Jurgen Klopp, and it describes a type of play characterized by high pressing, quick passing and a very hard work rate. It is in-your-face type of football – fast, aggressive, passionate and exciting.
Teams managed by the famous German manager, all utilize this type of game-play. They start games hard and fast, have a high defensive line and attack spaces immediately after losing the ball.
The philosophy is that the best moment to win the ball is immediately after your team just lost it, while the opponent is still getting orientated. That is the Jurgen Klopp type of football. That is the Heavy Metal Football.
When Jurgen Klopp was asked to compare his style of play against the style of play of Arsenal, he responded by saying that Arsenal is more like an orchestra, playing a quiet song, while he prefers heavy metal.
