Point Deductions
What are point deductions?
What is meant by point deductions in football?
What is the purpose of deduction of points?
The deduction of points in Football is a long-term sanction since the 1800s. The sanction is under Articles 10 to 12 of the FIFA Dictionary Code, where warnings, expulsions, match suspension, and banning can result in a points deduction. The Football Disciplinary Committee is the one responsible for making such decisions, where it is primarily based on a specific performance, financial penalty, registration of players, and many others.
Because of the piling debt a team could acquire, they could lose a 10-point penalty, which is already a big deal. The purpose of deduction of points is to never tolerate irresponsible behavior, especially when there are sensitive financial concerns. Many clubs were already sanctioned with this, yet even FIFA is not going to tolerate such behaviors. Some cases extend to a suspension per season, depending on the weight of their actions.
