TSR (Total Shots Ratio)
Total Shots Ratio, commonly referred to as TSR, is a critical football metric that compares a team’s total shots attempted to the total shots attempted by their opponents in a match or over a specific period. The formula for calculating TSR is TSR = Team’s Shots / (Team’s Shots + Opponent’s Shots). TSR provides a quantitative measure of a team’s share of total shots in a game, indicating their ability to control possession and create goal-scoring opportunities.
A high TSR signifies a team’s dominance in the match, implying that they are generating a larger proportion of shots relative to their opponents. Conversely, a lower TSR suggests that the team is facing more attacking pressure and may need to improve their offensive output. TSR is especially valuable when evaluating team performance over an extended period, as it reveals a team’s underlying strength in terms of generating goal-scoring chances and restricting the opposition’s attempts.
Coaches, analysts, and statisticians widely use TSR to gain insights into team dynamics, attacking strategies, and defensive solidity, enabling data-driven decision-making to optimize on-field performance.
