Franz Beckenbauer

Franz Anton Beckenbauer is a German footballer and coach who played as a central defender or midfielder. Often referred to as the footballer who invented the role of the football libero (free defender). He is considered the best center-back of the 20th century.

During his career, he was twice elected the footballer of the year in Europe, played on the fields of three world championships, 103 times was called up to the ranks of the FRG national team, becoming the first of the German players who played for the national team more than a hundred matches. He won the 1974 FIFA World Cup as team captain. With Bayern Munich, he won the European Cup three times in a row in 1974-1976 and the 1967 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. The first footballer to have played on three different teams as captain. He played for Bayern Munich, Hamburg (Germany) and New York Cosmos (USA). As head coach, he won the 1990 World Cup with the FRG national team. Since 1994 – President of Bayern Munich, since February 2002 – Chairman of the Board of JSC FC Bayern.

Since 2013, he has been the first global ambassador of the Football for Friendship International Children’s Social Program.

Carles Puyol

Carles Puyol Saforcada is a Spanish footballer who mainly played as a central defender, but could also play on both flanks of the defense, mainly on the right. He was considered one of the best defenders of his generation. He spent his entire career at the Spanish club Barcelona, was the team captain from 2004 to 2014, played 682 matches and scored 23 goals. He also played for the Spanish national team, held the position of vice-captain of the team.

Fabio Cannavaro

2006 World Champion. The best football player in the world in 2006.

He is fast and read game well; despite his short stature (176 cm) played well with his head. Older brother of Paolo Cannavaro.

At the end of his playing career – coach. Since 2017, he has headed the coaching staff of the Guangzhou Evergrande team.

Zinedine Zidane

Zinedine Yazid Zidane is a French footballer and coach of Kabyle descent. Considered one of the greatest players in football history. Zidane began his career at Cannes as a central midfielder, later playing for Bordeaux, but the clubs that made the Frenchman known to the whole world are Juventus and Real Madrid, with which the Frenchman won twelve trophies.

Zidane was named the best footballer in the world three times (1998, 2000, 2003) and once the best footballer in Europe (1998). In 2004 he was recognized by UEFA as the best football player in the last 50 years. In 2016 he was named the best French footballer in history by France Football. His transfer to Real Madrid in 2001 for 75 million euros was a record amount paid for one player at that time.

From 1994 to 2006, he played for the French national team, playing a total of 108 matches and scoring 31 goals. Together with the national team, Zidane became the world champion (1998) and the European champion (2000). Before the 2006 World Cup, in which Zidane was the team captain and became the best player in the tournament, the Frenchman announced his retirement as a player after the end of the world championship.

Subsequently, Zidane worked in the structure of Real Madrid, held the positions of adviser to the president, sports director, coach of the second team and assistant coach. In January 2016, Zidane was urgently appointed to the post of head coach of the first team following the resignation of Rafael Benitez. In less than two seasons as coach of the main team, Zidane won two Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the Club World Cup, the Spanish Championship (this was the first championship for his club in 5 years).

In October 2017, at The Best FIFA Football Awards, he was recognized as the best coach in the world – for the second consecutive victory in the Champions League with Real Madrid, which has never been possible before. In 2018, Zidane won the Champions League 3 times in a row. A few days after the victory, the Frenchman announced his retirement from the Madrid club of his own free will. However, in March 2019 he returned to the club. He is considered the creator of the football feint “Marseille Roulette”.

Fernando Redondo

Fernando Carlos Redondo Neri is an Argentine retired footballer.

A defensive midfielder with the ability to contribute offensively and creatively, he played one full decade in La Liga, mainly for Real Madrid, then finished his career (curtailed by several injury problems) in Italy, with Milan. With the former club, he won two La Liga championships and as many Champions League trophies, adding the 2003 Champions League with the latter.

Redondo was a member of the Argentine national team in the 1990s, representing the nation in the 1994 World Cup, and also winning the 1992 King Fahd Cup and the 1993 Copa América.

Rio Ferdinand

Rio Gavin Ferdinand is an English footballer and center-back. Held 81 caps for England and took part in three world championships.

Ferdinand began playing football for the youth teams of various clubs, eventually settling at West Ham United, where he made his way from the youth squad to the main squad and made his Premier League debut in 1996. He became a fan favorite, winning the 1997/98 Hammer of the Year award. He played his first national team match against Cameroon in 1997, becoming the youngest defender to ever play for England at the time. With his performance and potential, Rio caught the attention of Leeds, who bought Ferdinand for a record £18m for the club. After spending two seasons at Leeds, he became captain in 2001.

In July 2002, Ferdinand moved to Manchester United for £30m, breaking the club’s transfer record again. In his first season for United, he won the Premier League. In 2003, Rio refused to pass a mandatory doping test, for which he received an eight-month suspension (starting in January 2004), having missed half a season in the Premier League, as well as Euro 2004. After the end of the disqualification, he firmly established himself in the main team of “Manchester United” and earned recognition for his performances, several times getting into the “team of the year” according to the PFA version. He won the Premier League in the 2006/07, 2007/08, 2008/09, 2010/11 and 2012/13 seasons, as well as the Champions League in 2008. In March 2008, Ferdinand took the England captain’s armband onto the pitch for the first time.

The Ferdinand family has many footballers: Rio’s sibling, Anton Ferdinand, who also plays as a center-back, while the former striker Les Ferdinand is his cousin.

Benjamin Pavard

Benjamin Jacques Marcel Pavard is a French professional footballer who is known as a right back for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the France national team. Although usually deployed as a right-back, he is also capable of playing as a centre-back.

He began his career at Lille in Ligue 1 and transferred to VfB Stuttgart in 2016, where he won the 2. Bundesliga in his first season. In January 2019 he agreed a move to Bayern Munich, which was completed after Stuttgart’s relegation at the end of the season. In 2020, he completed an historic sextuple by winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, Champions League, DFL-Supercup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Pavard made his international debut for France in November 2017, and won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, also featuring at UEFA Euro 2020.

Thomas Partey

Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who is known as a midfielder for Premier League club Arsenal and the Ghana national team.

Partey began his professional career at Spanish club Atlético Madrid in 2013, going on loan to Mallorca and Almería, and returned to Atlético in 2015, with whom he won the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Super Cup in 2018. In 2020, he joined Arsenal in a transfer worth £45 million (€50 million).

A Ghanaian international, Partey represented his nation at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He was named into the CAF Team of the Year in 2018, and won Ghana Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

Tyrone Mings

Tyrone Deon Mings is an English professional footballer who is known as a centre-back and captain for Premier League club Aston Villa and the England national team.

Mings started his career playing non-League football with Yate Town, having previously been at the Southampton academy for eight years. He joined Southern League Premier Division club Chippenham Town in 2012. Mings signed for Ipswich Town in December 2012 and made his Football League debut on the final day of the 2012–13 season. He spent a further two seasons with Ipswich, before joining AFC Bournemouth in 2015, going on to make his Premier League debut in August 2015. He joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2018–19 season in January 2019, helping the club win promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs. Mings signed permanently for Aston Villa in July 2019.

Mings received his first call up to the senior England squad in August 2019. He made his senior debut in October 2019. In June 2021, Mings was selected for the England squad for the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament.

Jorginho

Jorge Luiz Frello Filho Cavaliere OMRI, known as Jorginho, is an Italian-Brazilian professional footballer known as a midfielder for Premier League club Chelsea and the Italy national team. He operates as a defensive midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker, also known as a regista in Italian football.

Born in Brazil, Jorginho moved to Italy at the age of 15, and began his professional career with the Verona youth team, before being promoted to the senior team. During the 2010–11 season, he was sent on loan to Sambonifacese. In January 2014, he moved to Napoli, where he soon after won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana. He totaled 160 games for the club before a £50 million move to Chelsea in 2018, where he won the UEFA Europa League in his first season, followed by the UEFA Champions League during the 2020–21 season.

At international level, he has represented Italy, making his senior debut in 2016, while his competitive debut came the following year. He was part of the Italy squad which won UEFA Euro 2020. He was named to the Team of the Tournament for his performances, and was later named the 2021 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year.
