All aspects of the game (team, organization, and stadium) are aimed at fans to help incorporate DC United/Audi Field into the game. Audi Field gets a fan of thinking fun and perfection.
Washington can be an expensive city to explore. Enjoying DC United in Washington can be expensive, and live entertainment will be expensive, but from time to time you should go to the game. Ticket prices can range from $22 per seat to $265 per seat. My recommended places usually cost about 150-200 dollars for a place. A large hot dog, french fries and a bottle of water cost about $ 24, the food at the stadium is not cheap. Parking with a partner in the parking lot Audi Fields Spot Hero will cost $35-$50. Evening in Audi Field with recommended places, snacks and parking will cost about $200 per game for one fan, but can cost as little as $50 with cheap places, without snacks, public transport or walking.
You can save money on tickets by purchasing a subscription or a multi-player flexible ticket.
How to get there?
Good news: Audi Field, the long-awaited football stadium for DC United at Buzzard Point, is holding its first game against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 14th.
And the bad news: traffic in the area can sometimes be bearish, thanks to traffic from the neighboring Fort McNair, the naval yard, the National Park and the explosion of commercial and residential facilities along South Capitol Street and the surrounding area.
Do not worry — we will help you to the red-black dressed maniacs at the stadium before the start of the game. Here are the details.
Parking
Parking is at least 1/4 of a mile from the stadium and requires a short walk through a low-income area. Once at the stadium, it is very easy to navigate and find what you want or need.
Audi Field advertises 6,500 parking spaces that are available in the vicinity. Much can be found at Yards and National Park, which is a 10-minute walk from the hotel. Instead of playing a guessing game, looking for lots with available places, consider using SpotHero to reserve a place in advance. A small warning: the closer the site, the more you pay (up to $ 50 for space in a quarter mile).
Audi Field will fully comply with ADA requirements. United provide free transfer from/to available parking spaces.
Parking is a struggle. There is no parking in the stadium, but Audi Field has half the price of parking with a Spot Hero. Spot Hero requires the use of a phone app and may be difficult for some fans.
Audi Field has four entrances. Gate A is the best entry for sections 101-111, Gate is the best entry for sections 112-122, Gate C is the best entry for sections 123-138/F13-F16/Suites 20-26, and Premium Entry is the best entry for sections C1-C9/F1-F12/F17-F18 /suites 1-19/suites 27-31. Audi Field has all the standard ticketing options (for example, digital, print, ticket tickets).
Metro
Fans are advised to use the Metrorail Green Line to get to the Audi Field. The nearest stop is Naval yard, about 10 minutes from the stadium. A little further is the Waterfront-SEU metro station, which is about 20 minutes from Audi Field.
Bus
Bus 74 stops at P Street SW on 3rd and 4th SW, O Street SW on 1st SW Street and Half Street SW on O Street SW. It is about 3-5 blocks from the bus stops to Audi Field.
Bicycle
DC United will provide free cycling services on game days, as well as guarding bicycle parking in the southwestern corner of the stadium. Meanwhile, Capital Bikeshare is likely to be installed in the Audi Field, providing many points of connection to thousands of Bikeshare stations throughout the region.
A boat
Another advantage of being close to Nats Park is the ability to use most of the adjacent transit infrastructure. United fans in Virginia can ride a baseball boat from Alexandria Marina. You can take a boat straight to the Pier (quickly take a taxi or go to the stadium) or dock 79 (take you to Nats Park and 5 minutes walk).
The width of the Audi Field hall is enough to such an extent that the 20,504 fans visited reportedly came from concessions, bathrooms and seating areas without any serious traffic jams. The field was built in class, and the field can be seen when you enter the stadium. The seating for the disabled is located in different sections, andsince this is a new stadium, accessibility for wheelchairs has been taken into account in the design and construction.
Where to eat?
Audi Field offers everything from low-class favorites such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, french fries, sodas and / or homemade beer to ethnic dishes such as Pabellon (Venezuelan dish with chopped beef, fesco, fesco, sweet bananas, black beans), Cochinita Pibil Tacos (Mexican dish with Yucatan pork, sour orange marinated in red onions) and craft beer or daiquiri. In the first few matches in this new location, the concession lines were long, and the desire to please the servers on many concession stands sometimes seemed overloaded, but the servers never gave up and the lines continued to move. This will certainly improve as the stadium operations will be settled.
A list of proposed products and their location can be found here. There are so many foods that look and smell unbelievable. I tried a fully loaded Half Smoke Dog with fries (local favorite). The quality is very high, and the amount indicated for the price is within the normal prices of the stadium. At the concession stand of Butterfly Tacos Tortas, next to section 118, there are always a lot of happy fans. Proponents point out that tacos at the concession stand Butterfly Tacos Tortas tastes great.
Audi Field offers Coke products through fountains and bottles. Domestic and craft beer is available on most concessions.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is full of excitement. The fans present are happy to see and try everything that Audi Field offers.
Audi Field is specially designed for the MLS football regulation. The interior of the stadium is beautiful. The seats are comfortable and all have cup holders. Width between rows of seats above; I witnessed how people over 6 feet tall sat lightly and moved through their territory. Steep rows in combination with the stunning position of the chairs give fans more chances to see the match, sitting behind a high fan. The field is green and immaculate, the scoreboard is bright and detailed, the sound system is correct, and in general all parts of the stadium come together to get unforgettable impressions.
DC United presented the first match scarf to fans as a promotion.
At DC United have four group support (Screaming Eagles, La Barra Brava, La Norte and District Ultras). On the first night, the Screaming Eagles were there with a giant banner of Screaming Eagles, which covered the entire section 137 when it was used. The talisman DC United Talon was nowhere to be found during the opening of the stadium.
Between the sound system, the singing of the support groups and the applause of the fans, the stadium is loud and exciting.
Sections 120 to 134 are not exposed to direct sunlight during the evening and provide shade until sunset during evening games. I recommend sitting somewhere in sections 125 -129 for the evening shade and the center of the field of view.
Neighborhood
Audi Field is located in Washington, DC, and if we consider the whole city as its neighborhood. The stadium is well priced in this regard.
The closest area around Audi Field is called Buzzard Point. Buzzard Point doesn’t have so many fun or interesting things to do within walking distance of the stadium. The area around the stadium is heavily guarded at most intersections leading to parking lots after the game. It will take some form of transportation or the will to power to get to the world-class food and entertainment that Washington has to offer.
Try everything about the burger. All About Burger is an inexpensive burger restaurant located just a mile from the stadium, with great handmade burgers. I also recommend Chinatown Express just 2.5 miles from the stadium for handmade Chinese noodles, Peking duck or other Chinese dishes. AT convenient pedestrian accessibility doesn’t have many great places to eat, but with a car and a desire to ride the crazy DC traffic you can find almost any type of food that you need less than 5 miles from Audi Field.
Spend time walking around the National Mall area and exploring the many monuments, historical sites and museums that are free to the public. All things located in the National Mall area are buckets list and must be visited at least once in a lifetime.
Stay at the Pod DC hotel located in the heart of Chinatown. Pod DC Hotel is located 2.5 miles from the stadium and offers a trendy minimum stay at a very reasonable price. Holiday Inn Washington-Capito is also a good choice. The Holiday Inn Washington-Capitol is located 1.8 km from the stadium and provides all the amenities that the Holiday Inn is known for at an average price in Washington.
The fans
It was the premiere of the new stadium, so attendance was incredibly high. The support groups were loud and agitated and infected the entire stadium with their excessive love for DC United. At some point during the game, it was written on the scoreboard that 20,504 fans were present at the stadium for 20,000 spectators. The game could have several hundred newbies, but most fans seemed to be at least random DC United fans who spent their hard-earned money to show their love on the first night of using Audi Fields.
The first night crowd was more than busy.
Fans get sick, clap, whistle and have a great time from start to finish. Even before the game starts, the DC organization downloads the latest and best pop music and makes fans run around. Random fans never lose interest, and support groups wave flags, sing songs, make rude gestures to the opposing team and never lose their strength.
Additionally
Gaming day programs are free, which is always a plus.
Audi Field has Southwest Landing, a unique store located behind section 120.
The store is so unique because it is set up as a corner store. The store has potato bags, sweets and cooling sandwiches, as well as other snacks and beverage bottles that can be purchased at the self-service kiosk. This small self-service store and self-service checkout is unique and I have never seen anything like it in a stadium.
The facility was very well thought out to be environmentally friendly, which also gives it extra credit.
The hall at the field level adds a nice touch to the stadium.
Financing and construction
The District of Columbia and DC United announced a preliminary agreement on the construction of a stadium for 20,000–25,000 seats for $ 300 million. USA to Buzzard Point. The deal required the District of Columbia to receive Acrid land at Cape Buzzard in exchange for cash and ownership of the Frank D. Reeves Municipal Center (the main government building in the city in the Shaw district). DC United will contribute $ 150 million to the construction of the stadium urban land, which he will lease for 20–35 years. The deal also gave DC United the right to build restaurants, bars, and even a hotel nearby. The Buzzard Point Plan, officially known as the District of Columbia Football Stadium Act, was approved by the District of Columbia City Council.
The city will no longer give Acridge a building and money. the city will now pay fair market value for the land of Acridge. If a deal cannot be reached by negotiation, the law gives the city the right to use the outstanding domain to seize land. In another review, the city agreed to contribute $ 150 million to buy land for the stadium.89 million dollars of this amount was intended for the acquisition of land, and another 61 million dollars — for improving utilities, removing toxic and hazardous waste and clearing land for construction. DC United also agreed to spend at least $ 150 million to build the stadium. The legislation did not give the club $ 7 million in the form of tax benefits, which he sought, but gave him $ 43 million in tax benefits. The outgoing mayor, Vincent Gray, signed the bill as one of the final acts of his term.
DK Council Chairman Phil Mendelsohn was disappointed with the negotiations, saying that both sides were “very far apart” for the price. In February, club officials estimated that the construction of the stadium would take 14-16 months. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Gray’s successor, pledged a budget of $106.3 million. US to buy a stadium, add infrastructure (such as plumbing, sewage, power lines, and natural gas) and eliminate toxic hazards at the site. The budget included borrowing $ 106 million and reprogramming $ 32 million from the city’s school modernization program to pay for the city’s stadium expenses. The District of Columbia City Council began work on legislation to permanently close several city streets that crossed the stadium’s territory.
When the city and the club approached their lease agreement in May, DC United began talking to city, county and government officials in Virginia about abandoning the District of Columbia and building a stadium in Northern Virginia. The negotiations became public on June 1. DC officials were outraged, although they recognized that the initiative was probably just a negotiation tactic to make the city sweeten its deal. Disagreements did not hurt the negotiations, as DC United and the city signed a final construction agreement. The agreement required at least 17,000 people to work at the facility, and set the lease term to 30 years with a minimum amount of 1 dollar per year. The agreement also contained a land regulatory clause: if the value of the land acquisition rose to $ 150 million, DC United had to reimburse the city 50% of the excess amount (although the club’s obligation was limited to $ 10 million).
The club was also forbidden to play more than random home games away from the Buzzard Point stadium (for example, it is forbidden to move for the duration of the lease). Mayor Bowser then submitted the agreement, as well as the land purchase agreement and the revised development agreement to the city council for approval. In accordance with the land purchase agreements, Pepco paid $ 39.3 million. US land and $ 1 million. US for the removal of equipment for the production of electricity from its site, $ 15.9 million. US for land owned by Super Salvage, and $ 10.32 million. USA for land owned by developer Mark Ain (owner of the professional tennis team of Washington Kastles). ). The cost of land sale contracts was offset by a deal for Pepco to purchase land owned by the city for $ 15 million on 1st and K Street, northwest. The council approved land purchase agreements.
In accordance with the terms of the agreement, DC United was to submit a conceptual design of the stadium to the city by September 1, 2015. In the District of Columbia, a deadline was set for the use of an outstanding domain for the acquisition of land in Akridge, which forces the club to build a stadium before the city finishes its purchase of land. DC has applied for an outstanding domain for sending Akridge.
German carmaker Audi and DC United announced a “long-term” deal to assign rights to the name of the new stadium. The Washington Post announced that the deal has been concluded for at least twelve years. Audi Headquarters in the United States is located in Herndon, Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington. Construction began two weeks later with a grand opening.
Opening
Audi Field held the ribbon cutting ceremony on July 9, 2018. The first ever opening match at Audi Field was a Major League football match between DC United and Vancouver Whitecaps FC on July 14, 2018, which ended with a 3–1 victory for DC United in front of a sell-out crowd of 20,504 people. A side reporter was injured after hitting the scenes.
