M&T Bank Stadium

M&T Bank Stadium is a multi-purpose football stadium located in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the home of the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. The stadium is immediately adjacent to Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles. Often referred to as “Ravens Stadium”, M&T Bank Stadium officially opened in 1998, and is currently one of the most praised stadiums in the NFL for fan amenities, ease of access, concessions and other facilities.

The stadium was originally known as Ravens Stadium at Camden Yards, until PSINet acquired the naming rights, naming it PSINet Stadium. It then reverted to Ravens Stadium when PSINet filed for bankruptcy. M&T Bank bought the naming rights in 2003 and signed a 15-year, $75 million contract with the Ravens, which was brokered by Team Services, LLC. The naming rights deal for M&T Bank Stadium was renewed for $60M over 10 years in 2014, extending the name through 2027.

The 200 level – also known as the club level – features an impressive array of amenities and service for Ravens fans.

Club seat ticketholders will have access to the climate-controlled club concourse featuring a number of lounges, eight full-service bars, multiple televisions and an exclusive club-only food and drink menu. Fans will also have access to upscale restrooms which typically have shorter lines than the rest of the stadium.

All club seats are wider-than-normal seat and include extra legroom. In addition to comfort, you’ll have one of the best views at M&T Bank Stadium. The 200 level is perched just above the lower level and offers excellent sitelines to all parts of the field.

Best Seats for Great Views of the Field at M&T Bank Stadium

Among the NFL stadiums we’ve visited, the toughest place to find a consistently great view is at M&T Bank Stadium. While the venue has a fairly common layout – three main seating bowls – the intricacies within each seating level are anything but common.

Views From the 100 Level

The 100 level sideline seats at M&T Bank Stadium are split up into upper and lower portions. The lower rows are below the entry tunnel and go as high as 16 or 18 in most sections. While we don’t normally recommend these lower rows for getting a great view, they’re one of the few safe bets for getting an unobstructed siteline in a 100-level seat. The optimal rows are 14-18 where you’ll be just below the tunnel and have enough elevation to see over the players.

As for the upper rows in sideline sections – there are some outstanding views – but they’re much more unpredictable. The entrance tunnels in these sections have created a few problems. First, fans tend to come out of the tunnel, pause, turn around, take a look up at the seats, pause, and then head up the aisle to their row. Depending on where the ball is, these people might be directly in your siteline. Second, a number of railings border these tunnels. While innocent-looking at first, they can create some major problems seeing the field.

To avoid some of the issues described above, consider rows 32-38 in sideline sections. Not every seat in these rows is perfect, but the added elevation – and being farther away from the tunnel – will help eliminate most problems.

Because of the uncertainty of sideline seating (and the relative high costs), you may want to consider an endzone seat instead. The stadium’s videoboards are located just above these endzone sections – giving fans seated here the absolute best view of replays, stats and other video. For the best views and gameday experience, we recommend rows 30 and higher in sections 136-144.

Club Seats

If getting the best view is a priority and you’re not limited by budget, you’ll want to begin your search on the club level. Club seats are located on the 200 level and are located at an ideal elevation for seeing the entire field. It may come as no surprise to learn that these seats also have the highest face value for Ravens games.

When choosing a row on the club level, we recommend skipping out on the first two rows where the railing can be difficult to see over.

Upper Level Seating

The most difficult place to find a consistently good view is in the 500 level. In fact, you have to go up about 12-15 rows before you can guarantee yourself a completely unobstructed view. With the upper level already located high above the playing surface, these higher rows can sometimes make you feel like you’re looking straight down onto the field.

The issues of the 500 level mirror the problems with the lower level. Tunnels and railings obstruct views time and time again. They’ll never block your entire view of the field – or even half of it – but these issues tend to arise when trying to see the action as it moves towards the endzones.

Because these problems arise in almost every lower row in every section, we can’t recommend any upper level seats for getting an outstanding view. Instead, we recommend tempering your expectations when buying upper deck tickets. Just know in advance that if you want to sit in a lower row, you may have to put up with some disrupted sitelines.

What is a PSL? In order to purchase Ravens Season Tickets in M&T Bank Stadium, the purchase of a PERMANENT SEAT LICENSE (PSL) is required. A Permanent Seat License is a one-time purchase that transfers the ownership rights of the seat(s) from the team to you. It is a contractual agreement between the team and the PSL Owner and, as long as the tickets are renewed each season, the ownership of the PSL(s). PSL(s) can be passed down to family members, friends, or sold to other individuals.

Buying a PSL? Fans looking to purchase PSLs and season tickets should contact the ticket office at 410-986-RAVE or filling out form below.

PSL/Season Ticket Owners

The Ravens receive a limited number of tickets for each away game, which are specifically intended for use by team personnel. PSL Owners may request access to purchase unused away game tickets by submitting a written request to the Ravens ticket office. Please note that the visiting team ticket allotment is typically located in the higher rows of the upper level in most stadiums. In addition, confirmation of the availability of tickets cannot be made until (3) days prior to the game requested no matter when the request is received. Please fax your request to 410-468-1340 including your name, PSL account number, phone number, game date, and number of tickets, or call 410-261-RAVE (7283).

In the event that the Ravens make the Playoffs and play on the road, the same procedures will apply. PSL Owner requests may only be submitted once the date, time, and location are confirmed.

The cost of an NFL game is expensive. There is no way around it. You do get a good deal, because of the high entertainment value and the extremely high level of competition. The parking costs, if done correctly and cheaply, can alleviate some of the expense. The Ravens make sure the fans know they are valued for spending their money on the team. Free programs are available for all games, and the pregame ritual of walking the Ravenswalk (located between the two Camden Yards stadiums) is a treat for all fans.

How to get there?

Parking Availability

Non-disabled parking for M&T Bank Stadium events is typically sold in advance and is by permit only. For Ravens games, all stadium lots are sold out to permit holders. If you do not have a permit for a stadium lot, purchase parking with Parking Panda or view a map of downtown parking options. Also, think about public transportation, it’s a great option! Call the MTA at 410-539-5000 or 1-866-RIDE-MTA. For additional information visit https://mta.maryland.gov/

Disabled Parking: Parking spaces for fans with disabilities are available on a first come, first served basis in Lots B, C & R (Lot R is located under the Russell Street bridge). No permits are issued in advance for disabled parking spaces. An appropriate state issued disabled placard or license plate is required to gain access to available disabled parking spaces and the registered owner must be in the vehicle. We recommend that guests requiring disabled parking arrive at the lots as early as possible, as spaces fill up quickly.

Stadium lots open four and a half hours prior to kickoff.

Once purchased, parking passes are emailed instantly and can be printed at home or redeemed by mobile phone, and entry to your selected location is 100% guaranteed. Parking inventory is limited and many locations will sell out prior to game day, so it is strongly recommended that you purchase your parking pass for Ravens games in advance if driving.

Lots J & O are now available for advanced purchase via Parking Panda. Passes are available for full-season purchase and do not renew year to year.

Lyft is the Preferred Ride-Share Partner of the Baltimore Ravens

Where to eat?

The Ravens have added a Shake Shack to the stadium, which has created much excitement. Expect long lines, but the prices are decent and the food is pretty great at this new food option.

The Ravens have good quality concession stands around the stadium. There are many stands offering options such as beer, chili bowl, pizza, and hot dogs are all nice options. Many stands tend to have generic names, such as Goal Line Grill, Kickoff Classics and the Chesapeake Market. There are also outposts of local favorites such as Attman’s Deli. A good choice at Attman’s is their corned beef or hot pastrami sandwich .

There are also a few full-service bars scattered around offering top shelf spirits and premium drinks . There are several kiosks that also sell a variety of domestic and craft beers.

The stadium has followed the lead of Atlanta and began to offer many lower price, value options. This has made an already good food experience even better.

Atmosphere

From the Ravenswalk area outside of the stadium to the purple seats and concourse lighting, the Ravens have set a fine stage for enjoyment of NFL football. Expect the games to be loud inside the walls of the stadium. Every play, whether it be on defense or offense, will have the fans screaming at every detail. Even special team plays are paid attention in great detail. The fans are knowledgeable about all aspects of the game. Ravenswalk leads the fans from downtown and Oriole Park towards M&T Bank Stadium. It has always been a good place for fans to enjoy pre game activities. The team has increased the entertainment and food offerings in this area making it an even more enjoyable place to spend some time.

Make sure to be in this area when the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band makes its way towards the game. One favorite here is the cocktail bar offering decent price drinks and a pretty impressive Bloody Mary bar.

One should also stop by to see the text of the former facade from Baltimore’s Memorial Stadium, which is on display between the two stadiums. The text was a memorial to those killed in the two World Wars. The main words of “time will not dim the glory of their deeds” reminds visitors of those this nation lost in the past. The line is a quote from Gen. John J. Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I.

The large video boards, known as RavensVision, past both end zones are amazing visual spectacles. The vertical screens in each corner are new, and enhance the game viewing options.

The Ravens cheerleading squad and mascot Poe offer traditional cheering options. Note that the cheerleading squad has a male stunt squad, as well. At one time there were two other mascots named Edgar and Allen but they no longer seem to be part of the franchise’s operation.

The signage around the stadium is consistent, modern and appropriate.Purple lighting effects are seen everywhere.

One major complaint of M&T Bank Stadium was the lack of escalators to the upper deck. But with the new addition of escalators to this area, fans are extremely happy that they do not have to hoof it up and down stairs or long ramps.

Neighborhood

The neighborhood is generally the same as Oriole Park at Camden Yards, but does suffer a slight bit, as it is further away from downtown Baltimore. The newly opened Horseshoe Casino, located south of the stadium, has the potential to make this “other” side to the stadium become more and more important to the Ravens’ social scene. Close to the stadium, and right across from Oriole Park, are Pickles Pub and Sliders Bar & Grille. The Federal Hill neighborhood is also close by. There are a few fun restaurants and bars here.Abbey Burger Bistro (1041 Marshall Street) is one great choice. The beer selection is good, and they offer a dizzying array of burger choices, which are all likely to satisfy. Mother’s (1113 S Charles Street) and Magerks (1061 S Charles Street) are also good places for a pre or postgame meal.

The Inner Harbor is a popular tourist destination, and is a short walk from M&T Bank Stadium. There are numerous options here but will be expensive and more touristy. If you do want a reasonable option, look for the value of the M&S Grill happy hour (201 E Pratt Street in the Pratt Street Pavilion of Harborplace), as it is considered the best in town.

Baltimore is home to many touristy attractions, such as Harborplace, Fells Point and Fort McHenry. The American Visionary Art Museum on Key Highway is located on the way to Fort McHenry and should not be missed, although its unique collection will not be for everyone.

Baltimore is, and has always been, an urban environment where you should make sure you are aware of your surroundings.

Use common sense and all will be fine and you will have a great time.

Fans

Baltimore is a football town. They love smash-mouthed football and have no problem if the defense wins the game by smothering their opponents. Even when there was no NFL team in town, they embraced football variations offered by the USFL and the CFL in ways that other cities may have a hard time following. The fans will still respect fans who wear the opposing team’s colors, but they still should not expect too much love. The fans are serious about the Ravens and defensive football.

Just like at Oriole Park, the Ravens’ fans commemorate the local creation of the Star-Spangled Banner, and the love of the other big league team in town, by shouting a loud “O!!!!!!” during the appropriate spot in the anthem. In other places, this would seem to be disrespectful, but in Baltimore, it shows the love of country and the team. If you hear that yell at other parks throughout the country, rest assured that there is a Baltimore fan in the house. Fans also love to chant along with the “Seven Nation Army” song by the White Stripes.

Extras

The Johnny Unitas statue located at the end of Ravenswalk and in front of the stadium is a gathering spot for pregame meetings, as well as a place to honor the Baltimore Colts legend. A Ray Lewis statue was recently added to honor one of the other most important Baltimore football players. Ravenswalk is the place to be and watch the excitement of the game day grow to a fever pitch.

The only marching band in professional football, the Marching Ravens, plays at Ravenswalk as well at points in the game.

This is the same band that was known as the Baltimore Colts’ Marching Band, and was started in 1947.

The newly spent renovations and additions have made the purple colors and signage seem consistent, and scream out RAVENS at all points.

Design Innovations

The firm, known for such design innovations as club seats and upscale lounges and many other amenities, adds to its impressive list a design feature that separates the upper deck into four individual sections. The notches in the seating bowl imitate the letter “V”, which the Ravens have nicknamed victory notches. But, these notches play a vital role in the stadium’s design. Ticket holders get stunning views of Baltimore’s downtown skyline and feel a significant sense of location and connection to the city, while passer-byers are allowed exciting glimpses of the activity. The design innovation also allowed the designers the opportunity to create better sightlines and eliminate the unpopular corner endzone seating.

Baltimore is the first NFL stadium that breaks up the upper concourse into four distinct areas. This is a design feature currently being imitated at other NFL stadiums under construction.

After years of stadium design that kept the spectators confined within the oval seating bowl, the notched upper deck was an exciting change. This unprecedented design innovation really raises the level of stadium design expectations.

Construction

Clark self-performed the foundations and superstructure package for the 69,426-seat, 1,525,000 square-foot M&T Bank Stadium, home to the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens.

Before construction began on the Ravens’ Bank Stadium, the Maryland Stadium Authority identified three trades (concrete, mechanical, and electrical) as critical to the successful completion of the project. They went outside of the lump sum bid process to select contractors with the demonstrated ability to promote minority participation and labor harmony, while meeting the project’s goals for schedule, cost, quality and safety. Clark served as the prime contractor for the concrete foundations and superstructure on the stadium project.

One of the major construction challenges was meeting the hoisting requirements of the project. A crane study indicated that at least four cranes would be needed to most efficiently conduct framework, cast-in-place concrete and precast operations. Additionally, the cranes needed to be located inside the stadium seating area for the erection of the precast seating treads and risers. However, the poor soil conditions and high water table in the stadium site would have prohibited the use of crawler cranes at various times during the project. In order to meet these demanding project requirements, Clark’s project team, in conjunction with the Construction Manager, developed a rail-mounted tower crane system which enabled the cranes to travel inside the stadium bowl.
