The stadium was officially inaugurated on April 12, 1938, and was originally named Parc Lescure in honor of the former mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Lescure. Stade Chaban-Delmas has hosted several matches of international significance, including matches during the FIFA World Cup in 1938 and 1998.
