History

Stade Michel d’Ornano was built in 1993 as a replacement for the previous Stade de Venoix, which had been the home stadium of SM Caen. The construction of the new stadium was part of a larger urban development project in Caen. The stadium was officially inaugurated on October 6, 1993, with a match between SM Caen and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). PSG won the match 1-0. Stade Michel d’Ornano was one of the host stadiums for the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament held in France. It hosted three group stage matches, including a match between England and Wales.
