The stadium was built in 1971 and officially opened on May 30, 1971. It was designed by architect Rade Bitanga. Like many other buildings in Mostar, the stadium suffered significant damage during the Bosnian War (1992-1995). The war resulted in the destruction of infrastructure and left the stadium in ruins. After the war, efforts were made to rebuild and renovate the Bijeli Brijeg Stadium. The reconstruction process took several years, and the stadium was eventually reopened in 2005. The Bijeli Brijeg Stadium has witnessed numerous memorable football matches over the years. One of the most notable matches took place on May 26, 1982, when Velež Mostar faced FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Cup. Velež won the match 2-1.
