Weather Forecasts and Fields in Football Prediction

Weather factors can be divided into two main categories: temperature condition and precipitation.

The cold, even a slight frost, does not really interfere with the game. On the contrary, football players move faster. But if it freezes harder, the field may become stiff, and the muscles of the players will be at greater risk of injury. But this rarely affects the game and bet component, since at the beginning of winter there are few matches played in northern latitudes.

Much more often, as a temperature factor, heat pops up. So if the summer is in the yard or the beginning of autumn, the match takes place in the southern latitudes, and even in the early evening, consider it a day — this is an occasion to check the weather forecast. If meteorological sites really show the heat, then in such games it is better not to bet on an abundance of goals, on large scores.

Betting and weather

Either they generally avoid bets in such matches, or they play on total under or positive handicap of an outsider. That’s because any reasonable team, having scored a goal in such “hellish” conditions, will try to keep the score, dry the game. Keeping up the pace to increase the gap is just physically painful.

In addition to temperature, precipitation can affect a football match. Very few arenas are provided with a fully lockable dome. Even fewer matches are played in playpens. This is more of a fetish from the Russian second league of the FNL than world practice. So both rain and snow wake up on the field.

If precipitation is not too intense, then their effect is minimal. And if it floods decently, then corrections may arise for predicting the outcome of the match. A wet ball becomes slippery. This stimulates to long-range strikes. If the better knows the players of both teams well, they will be able to find out who has the distant “guns” above the class. That team has a better chance of scoring more, winning.

Also, heavy rainfall can turn a poor-quality football field into a mess, or create a puddle in an artificial meadow. This will slow down the game. Total, most likely, will not be broken in such conditions.

So when forecasting any match, it’s useful to look at the meteorological site. Drive there the city, the venue of the match. View the forecast for the desired date and time. If there are any hints of unusual weather, then this should be noted in your notes. So you should wait with the bet. When the time is right, turn on the live broadcast of the match and see if the weather forecast really has worked out, whether natural phenomena affect the game. Then they make a more meaningful bet in live, or refuse to bet on this match.

It happens that a player bets on a confident favorite’s win, or total over. As a result, the bet is lost. The player is upset, but does not even bother to figure out what was there, what is the reason for the lost bet. They just go further, making the same mistakes in new bets. A sensible approach is to watch the games you bet on. At a minimum, you need to do work on the bugs.

So the bettor could watch the video from the game and understand that it was hot, or it was raining (snow) and the field was heavy. If you watched the game live, you could have saved the bet. Bad weather and a difficult field are the helpers of a less classy and technical team. These qualities are leveled by the opponent and physical readiness and athleticism come to the fore. The teams of the average players usually have no problems with this.

Less commonly, weather factors such as strong gusty winds and fog can affect the game. If the wind blows along the field, towards one of the gates, then you can take a chance and play with it. For example, bet that in the first half there will be a goal against the team that is blowing in which direction. Or vice versa, that the team from which they are blowing will not miss more than one goal in this half. This is such insurance. But to score more than one, against a squally wind is really difficult.

It’s hard to just attack, run, give gears against a strong wind. The ball does not fly corny, it blows. Exact passes do not come out. Of course, the wind can subside, and after the break the teams will switch sides. It is necessary to think and act with lightning speed. Such phenomena are rare, but a smart bettor has the opportunity to play with it in live, if they see something like that in the match.

If the field is covered in dense fog, then it is better not to bet on such a game. There are many random factors. Poor visibility can interfere with building attacks, but it also disorients the goalkeepers. So it is better to perceive such an infrequent factor as a “stop signal” for bets.

In early matches, the sun factor can play. It happens that it blinds one of the goalkeepers. The keeper sometimes even has to wear a cap with a visor. So you can put on goals in a specific half-time through this goal, because after the break the clubs change in half the field, and the luminary can go into the stands by then. Of course, this is only an auxiliary factor. If the opponent is bad at attack, then no sun will help them. And if the attack is good and pushes, then a blinded goalkeeper is an additional chance. As well as the opportunity to make the right bet.

Field factor in the soccer betting

Regarding the football field itself, the lawn, two main factors should be distinguished:

  • type of coverage;
  • state of the field in a particular game.

Types of coverage can be globally divided into natural grassy lawns and artificial fields. Without going into the jungle, we say that playing on a good natural lawn is more pleasant and safer, there is a lower risk of injury. If the players of a team usually train and play on the natural fields, and then come to a club for one match, which has an artificial turf in the stadium, this is always a problem for visitors.

This is fraught with injuries and discomfort, which fetters the players, does not allow showing 100% of their potential. Not used players will sooner get tired on synthetics. The opposite situation also takes place, but the transition from artificial to natural fields is much easier.

From here we get one serious forecasting factor. Whenever possible, you need to collect information about those teams that you often follow, on which you bet. Among other things, find out what type of coverage is at the stadium where the club plays home meetings.

If a situation occurs when a team arrives to visit that is not used to the existing type of coverage, this is a factor against it. If you were going to bet, starting from the owners — we add a few points to the confidence that they will not lose. If you wanted to play from the guests, then it is better to abstain. Winning them will be more difficult, even if the class of the opponent is lower.

This we could repeatedly, for example, observe at the matches of the Swiss team Young Boys. They play on an artificial field, where they did not allow themselves to beat such clubs as Valencia, Shakhtar, Dynamo Kiev and many other teams that are two heads above the class. The same thing can be said about the Danish FC Midtjylland and some other clubs.

If we talk about the geography of artificial fields, then it is very extensive and it will not be possible to find any strict regularity. It is always better to thoroughly learn about a specific stadium in Google. Basically, synthetics are laid in the Scandinavian countries, due to climatic conditions. So many teams from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland have home arenas with artificial turf. A number of clubs of the Russian championship, at all levels (RPL, FNL and PFL) have synthetic fields. This is especially true for representatives of Siberia and other regions remote from the European part.

In England they play exclusively on natural fields. They learned how to make lawns in Spain, France and Italy. But this applies only to the top divisions. In the leagues below, with the fields everything is not so great.

In synthetics, it is worth saying that it is constantly being improved and is approaching in quality to a natural field. So the fact itself is not enough. It is better to learn more about each field. Better yet, just watch some video recordings or live broadcasts from matches. Much about the state of the field will become clear. Often, commentators also make remarks about this.

Different quality happens in natural fields. Other natural coverage is worse and harder than in other stadiums. Well-known example of the lawn at the Sochistadium “Fischt”. It seems to be natural, but for some reason with a huge amount of sand and heavy to disgrace. A sad story haunts FC Sochi in this regard. Such a club did not exist until 2018. But someone needs to play in a posh arena in Sochi. So Dynamo St. Petersburg was sent there, who bumped into the FNL through foreign fields in St. Petersburg or the Leningrad region. Renamed, play. A new home field is not happy. Just look at the results of the team. Away FC Sochi plays better than on the heavy “home” lawn of Fisht Stadium.

Also, various experts and players spoke extremely unflattering about this field. They showed that the field was very exhausting.

So the factor of the type of coverage and the very quality of the field can influence very much. It is better for the forecaster to be fully armed, to know such moments. Also, the question of the condition and quality of the field is another incentive to not only bet and wait for money, but also to watch, at least occasionally, video broadcasts of matches. If there is a “garden” on the field, then it will catch the eye. It will be possible to take measures, adjust the forecast and make some safety bets already in live.

Obviously, the first subsection we examined, about the weather, can affect the game in combination with the field. If it rains heavily, snow, then a good lawn will last longer, and a bad field will quickly become even slower and heavier. In such circumstances, it is no longer up to combinational fast football. There are comical cases when the ball literally does not roll, stops and swims in puddles. This means that the drainage is poor or just can’t handle the rain. Some referees in such circumstances may temporarily interrupt the match. But some don’t even care. In Britain, for example, it often rains, so shouldn’t they play because of this or what?

In addition to precipitation, heavy field and heat factors can be superimposed. Both points will take away the power of the players, the game will clearly lose in regards to speed. Here it’s right at the time to bet on total under.

Conclusions

Although weather factors and the state of the football field are not in the forefront when choosing matches and generating forecasts, completely ignoring them is a mistake. You don’t need a lot of time to get the necessary information. If you systematically monitor teams, make notes, indicating the climatic features of the region where they play, note the properties of the home field, then the quality of future forecasts will benefit from this. As well as your bets.
