Coco Gauff, the fourth racket of the world, will face the 13th racket of Marta Kostyuk in the third round of the competition in Wuhan. Gauff extended her winning streak to six matches by winning in the second round and winning the title in Beijing. She has 47 wins this year and is confidently ranked third in the WTA rankings.
Gauff beat Kostyuk twice on hard courts. Kostyuk, in turn, defeated her on clay in Stuttgart in April, but is now looking for a way to break a series of defeats.
Kostyuk has had a successful year, however, she has had difficulties in recent weeks, including four defeats in her last nine matches. In Wuhan, she beat Elina Avanesyan in three sets, which helped her regain her form. She is ranked 17th in the current ranking.
The winner of the match will face Magda Linette or Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals.
