The two Latin American boxers, Mario Barrios and Abel Ramos, both hailing from the United States, will face off in a 12-round fight to determine the winner of the WBC welterweight championship belt. Barrios, a former WBA champion, held the super lightweight title in 2019 but relinquished it two years later.
His opponent, Ramos, has not been so successful. Despite a 13-year professional career, he has attempted four times to become a champion in both the super lightweight and welterweight divisions but has been unsuccessful each time. The majority of his six losses have occurred in title fights.
Barrios, on the other hand, has been consistently winning the WBC Continental Americas and WBC Interim World championship belts leading up to this fight. In his most recent fight in May of this year, he successfully defended his title by defeating his challenger on points.
Barrios is currently on an upward trajectory, while Ramos’ repeated failures in title fights may have caused him to develop a fear and disappointment in his own abilities.
