Over Round

Over-round (Book Value, Betting Book or Book) is the percentage that exceeds 100% of the probabilities for the outcome of a sporting event (line in a football match, bets on a victory in a jump, etc.). They are the norm of the bookmaker’s profitability.

How to calculate the over-round a betting shop?

Consider an example of over-round in the example of a football match. Let’s say the line for this match will be the following: 2.00 – 3.00 – 6.00 (or as a percentage of 50% – 33% – 16%). Let’s also assume that these odds are fair and accurately reflect the probability of the outcome of the match. However, this means that with the payment of prize money, the bookmaker does not leave a profit. To avoid this, the following factors on the line are inserted: 1.82 – 2.8 – 4, or 55% – 35.71% – 25, which is a total of 115.71%. Hence, the rate of profitability of a betting shop with each committed player of the transaction is 15.71%.
