Who wore number 12 in volleyball?

Whether we’re talking about jersey numbers or using stats in sports arguments, numbers have and will always have a place in sports in a variety of different ways. Players are recognized by their numbers and they are part of a player’s legacy.

Gavin Schmitt

Gavin Charles Schmitt is a former Canadian volleyball player, who started playing volleyball in Saskatoon for the Saskatchewan Huskies volleyball club and eventually went on to win the silver medal with the Canada men’s national volleyball team at the 2013 NORCECA Volleyball Championship in Langley, Canada.

From 2009 to 2012, Schmitt played for the Daejeon Samsung Bluefangs in South Korea’s V-League, where he led the team to three consecutive titles winning the MVP awards in the 2009–10 and 2011–12 seasons.

Schmitt led the national team in scoring in six of the seven matches he played for Canada at the 2014 World Championship in Poland, where Canada finished seventh for its then best result in the championship that has been held 18 times since 1949.

In July 2016, he was named to Canada’s 2016 Olympic team.

Alexander Butko

Aleksandr Anatolyevich Butko is a Russian volleyball player, known as a member of Russia men’s national volleyball team and Russian club Zenit Kazan, and 2012 Olympic Games.

Nalbert Bitencourt

Nalbert Tavares Bitencourt, known as Nalbert, is a former Brazilian professional volleyball player. He was born in Rio de Janeiro.

Nalbert is 195 cm (77 in) and played as passer-attacker. With Brazil national team he won two World Leagues (2003 and 2004), one World Cup (2003), a World (2002) and one Olympic gold medal.

Mirko Corsano

Mirko Corsano is a volleyball player from Italy, who won the bronze medal with the men’s national team at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Playing as a libero, he claimed his first title for the Azzurri in 1999 at European Championship in Vienna, Austria.

Hubert Henno

Hubert Henno is a French volleyball player, known as a member of France men’s national volleyball team. He was participant of the Olympic Games Athens 2004, bronze medalist of the World Championship 2002, silver medalist of the European Championship (2003, 2009), multiple-time French Champion, double Italian Champion, and Russian Champion.

In 2002-2005 spent in Tours VB and won two French Cups (2003, 2004) and his fourth title of French Champion (2003/2004). In season 2004/2005 he won CEV Champions League with the Tours VB and was awarded Best Libero. Henno then moved to Russian League, to VC Dynamo Moscow and as a player of this team achieved title of Russian Champion 2006. In 2006-2008 he was the M. Roma Volley player.

In season 2008/2009 he played for Volley Forlì. Next three season Henno spent as a player of Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo. In season 2009/2010 he won Italian SuperCup 2009 and Championship. In 2010/2011 he won Italian Cup and silver medal of Italian Championship.

In 2012 Henno moved to Lube Banca Macerata. In 2013/2014, the team won Scudetto (Italian Champion) after matches against Sir Safety Perugia.

Peter Blangé

Peter Blangé is a retired volleyball player from the Netherlands, who represented his native country in four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea.

In 1996 he won the gold medal in Atlanta, Georgia with the Dutch Men’s National Team by defeating Italy in the final (3-2). He is also known as the head coach of the Dutch Men’s National Team.

Isac Santos

Isac Viana Santos is a Brazilian volleyball player. He is known as part of the Brazil men’s national volleyball team. On club level, he chose to play for Sada Cruzeiro. He is a silver medalist of the 2018 World Championship, gold medalist of the 2019 World Cup, and multiple–time Brazilian Champion (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018).

Andrea Lucchetta

Andrea Lucchetta is an Italian former volleyball player who was World champion with his national team in 1990. He was born in Treviso, Italy, and is nicknamed “Crazy Lucky” for his bizarre hair style.

Standing at 199 cm (6’6″), he played as middle blocker/hitter. Lucchetta debuted in Italian Major League in 1982 with Panini Modena, where he remained until 1990, winning five Italian titles and one European Champions Cup.

With the Italian team he gained 292 caps, winning a World Title, a European title (1989), and three World Leagues (1990, 1991 and 1992).

He’s also the creator of the Italian animated series Spike Team.

Lucchetta won MVP award in World Championship 1990.

In 1984 he was part of the Italian team which won the bronze medal in the Olympic tournament. He played all six matches. Four years later he finished ninth with the Italian team in the 1988 Olympic tournament. He played one match.

At the 1992 Games he was a member of the Italian team which finished fifth in the Olympic tournament. He played all eight matches.

Andrija Gerić

Andrija Gerić is a retired Serbian volleyball player who played on middle blocker position. Both in the club and in the national team he wore number 12.

Gerić made a debut for the national team on 7 July 1995 in Greece when FR Yugoslavia defeated Greece 0-3. In 2000 in Sydney the Yugoslav national team (members of which were also Vladimir Grbić, Nikola Grbić, Goran Vujević, Ivan Miljković) won the Olympic gold medal.

During his club’s career he played for OK Vojvodina, Bossini Montichiari‚ Lube Banca Marche Macerata and Icom Latina from Italy, Panathinaikos VC from Greece and Fenerbahçe from Turkey. He won Champions League, CEV Cup, domestic Championships of Serbia, Italy and Turkey, as well as Serbian and Italian domestic Cup.

Luiz Felipe Fonteles

Luiz Felipe Marques Fonteles is a Brazilian volleyball player, known as a member of the Brazil men’s national volleyball team in 2005–2016, Japanese team, and JTEKT Stings, on club level. He is the 2016 Olympic Champion, silver medalist of the 2014 World Championship, South American Champion (2005, 2013) and gold medalist of the 2011 Pan American Games.

Season 2012/2013 spent as a player of ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in Poland. He won silver medal of Polish Championship and Polish Cup 2013. Individually was the best player of PlusLiga in season 2012/2013. He was awarded: MVP and Best Spiker of Polish Cup, Best Server of CEV Champions League 2012/2013. In season 2013/2014 he was a player of Fenerbahçe Grundig. In 2014 Fonteles came back to Brazilian club – Funvic Taubaté.
