Who wore number 16 in volleyball?
Athletes in every team sport have a number on their jersey to identify them. In professional volleyball, players are given numbers between 1 and 20. Sometimes, players get to choose their own number and other times, they’re just assigned a number by the team.
Alexey Verbov
Aleksey Igorevich Verbov is a retired Russian volleyball player, a former member of Russia men’s national volleyball team and the Russian club Zenit Kazan. He is also known as the coach of the men’s Zenit Kazan team.
With the Russian men’s national team, he won the gold medal at the 2013 Men’s European Volleyball Championship played in Denmark and Poland. He won the award as Best Libero in the tournament. He also won the bronze medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
He played with Lokomotiv Belgorod winning the bronze medal at the 2005–06 CEV Champions League; he also won the award “Best Libero” in this tournament.
Lucas Saatkamp
Lucas Saatkamp is a Brazilian volleyball player, known as a member of Brazil men’s national volleyball team and Brazilian club SESI São Paulo, winning a gold medal with Brazil at the 2010 World Championships, a participant and silver medalist of the Olympic Games London 2012, World Champion 2014 and multi-medalist of the World League.
Krzysztof Ignaczak
Krzysztof Ignaczak is a Polish former volleyball player, member of the Poland men’s national volleyball team in 1998–2014, participant at the Olympic Games (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012), 2014 World Champion, 2009 European Champion, 2012 World League winner, silver medalist at the 2011 World Cup, and six-time Polish Champion (2005, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2015).
Vigor Bovolenta
Vigor Bovolenta was a volleyball player from Italy. Bovolenta was part of the men’s national team that won the European Championship in 1995 and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics.
He died at the age of 37 only a few hours after feeling faint (allegedly suffering a heart attack) during an Italian League fourth level game between his team, Forlì, and the reserve team of Macerata. He had severe coronary artery disease similar to Sergey Grinkov.
Milena Rašić
Milena Rašić is a retired Serbian professional volleyball player. She played for Serbia women’s national volleyball team. She won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and also competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She is 1.93 m (6 ft 4 in) tall.
Having been part of the Serbian team that finished in last place at the London Olympics, Rašić was also part of the Serbian team that won the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Rašić won the 2016–17 CEV Champions League gold medal with VakıfBank Istanbul when her team defeated the Italian Imoco Volley Conegliano 3-0 and she was also awarded Best Middle Blocker. She won the bronze medal of the 2017 FIVB World Grand Prix and the Best Middle Blocker individual award.
Fernanda Garay
Fernanda Garay Rodrigues is a Brazilian professional volleyball player who won the 2012 Summer Olympics gold medal and the silver medal at 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics with the Brazil national team. She is 1.79 m (5 ft 10 in) tall. She is known for playing with Praia Clube.
