Whether we’re talking about jersey numbers or using stats in sports arguments, numbers have and will always have a place in sports in a variety of different ways. Players are recognized by their numbers and they are part of a player’s legacy.

Cristian Poglajen

Cristian Gabriel Poglajen is an Argentinian volleyball player. He was part of the Argentina men’s national volleyball team. He competed with the national team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain and the 2016 Olympics in Rio. He played with Sarmiento Voley in 2012.

Maique Reis Nascimento

Maique Nascimento is a Brazilian indoor volleyball player. He is known as a member of the Brazil men’s national volleyball team.

Amirhossein Esfandiar

Amir Hossein Esfandiar is an Iranian volleyball player known as an outside spiker for the Iranian national team and Belgian club Greenyard Maaseik.

He was named the most valuable player at 2019 U21 World Championship. In 2018 Esfandiar was invited to Iran senior national team by Igor Kolaković and made his debut match against Chinese Taipei in the 2018 Asian Men’s Cup.

Nabil Miladi

Nabil Miladi is a Tunisian male volleyball player. He was part of the Tunisia men’s national volleyball team at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Poland. He played for ES Tunis.

Camila Hiruela Tapia

Camila Hiruela Tapia is an Argentine female volleyball player. She is known as part of the Argentina women’s national volleyball team.

She participated in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship, 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, and 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. At club level she played for UTE in 2018.

Macris Fernanda Silva Carneiro

Macris Fernanda Silva Carneiro is a volleyball player from Brazil. She acts as setter, known for playing in Itambé/Minas and in the Brazilian National Team.

Lisa Gründing

Lisa Gründing is a German volleyball player.

She played for TSV Burgdorf, and SC Potsdam. She participated in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League, and 2019 Montreux Volley Masters.

Valeria Salinas González is a Mexican female volleyball player. She is known as a member of the Mexico women’s national volleyball team and played for Nuevo Leon in 2018.

She was part of the Mexico national team at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship, and 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.

Nicole Koolhaas

Nicole Koolhaas is a Dutch volleyball player, characterized as a center. She was a member of the Women’s National Team. She chose to play for Bartoccini Perugia Volley.

Angelina Vadimovna Lazarenko is a Russian volleyball player, known as a member of the Russia women’s national volleyball team. In the 2019/2020 season, she started playing for Dinamo Krasnodar.

Sara Lozo is a Serbian volleyball player.

Hathairat Jarat

Hathairat Jarat is a Thai indoor volleyball player. She is known as a member of the Thailand women’s national volleyball team.

She played volleyball with the Nongruawittaya School from 2013–2015. She won the 2017 Asian U23 Championship Best Middle Blocker award.

Kubra Caliskan

Kübra Akman Çalışkan is a Turkish female volleyball player.

She played for Nilüfer Belediyespor before transferring to VakıfBank Türk Telekom in 2012. Akman was a member of the girls’ youth national team and the women’s junior national team.

Akman won the gold medal at the 2013 Club World Championship playing with Vakıfbank Istanbul. Three years later she won the bronze medal at the 2016 Club World Championship with the same club.

Haleigh Washington

Haleigh Meridian Washington is an American volleyball player known for playing with the United States women’s national volleyball team. Washington played middle blocker for the Penn State women’s volleyball team, where she helped lead the team to the 2014 NCAA National Championship. She won gold with the national team at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

In her early athletic days, she showed talent in basketball, but ended up being more passionate about volleyball while on the seventh-grade team. She would attend Clear Creek High School, where she began being recruited by college volleyball coaches in her freshman year. Her family relocated to Colorado Springs before her junior year, and she finished her high school career at Doherty High School, where she set a state record after putting down 48 kills in a match with her high school team.

She earned consecutive Colorado Volleyball Player of the Year honors in 2012 and 2013 and led her team to a state championship title in 2012, and was the 2013 Volleyball Magazine National Player of the Year. She was considered to be the nation’s top high school recruit in her class, and ultimately decided to play collegiate volleyball at Penn State.

Washington was a three-time first-team All-American and helped lead the team to the 2014 NCAA National Title as a freshman, as well as an appearance in the 2017 Final Four in her senior season. She was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year after hitting .463 for the season. In her senior season, she earned the 2017 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, and led the nation with a .503 hitting percentage, while putting down 3.03 kills per set on the season. She earned AVCA All-American honors multiple times and was selected as a Honda Sports Award nominee after her senior season.

Washington credited Penn State women’s volleyball coach Russ Rose for acclimating her to the grueling demands and expectations of competing on the international stage.

Washington is also known for playing professional volleyball with top Italian league team Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

With Team USA, she started all three matches of the 2019 Tokyo Qualification Tournament in which Team USA earned its bid into the 2020 Olympic Games.

She was named to the 18-player roster of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Nations League. In her first match as the starting middle, she had nine kills and a block against Brazil.

On June 7, 2021, US National Team head coach Karch Kiraly announced she would be part of the 12-player Olympic roster for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Washington helped lead her team to the USA’s first ever gold medal and was named Best Middle Blocker of the tournament.

Tomohiro Yamamoto

Tomohiro Yamamoto is a Japanese national volleyball player from Ebetsu, Hokkaido. He is known for playing in V.League division 1 for Osaka Blazers Sakai.

Bartosz Bednorz

Bartosz Bednorz is a Polish volleyball player, known as a member of the Poland men’s national volleyball team, participant at the Olympic Games (Rio 2016), 2018 Polish Champion. At the professional club level, he chose to play for the Russian team, Zenit Kazan.

In 2014, Bednorz signed a one-year contract with Indykpol AZS Olsztyn. In April 2015, he extended his contract for a one more season. In April 2016, PGE Skra Bełchatów announced that Bednorz is going to play for Skra in the next PlusLiga season. He signed a two-year contract until 2018.

On 2 April 2015, he was called up to the Polish national team by the head coach Stéphane Antiga. He was a member of the national team during the intercontinental round of the 2015 World League. On 14 August 2015, he achieved his first medal as a national team player – bronze of the European League. His national team won the 3rd place match with Estonia (3–0).

Roman Martynyuk

Roman Aleksandrovich Martynyuk is a Russian male volleyball player. He was a part of the Russia men’s national volleyball team. On club level he chose to play for VC Lokomotiv Novosibirsk.

Erik Shoji

Erik Thomas Shoji is an American volleyball player, known as a member of the United States men’s national volleyball team, bronze medalist at the 2018 World Championship, gold medalist at the 2014 World League and 2015 World Cup, NORCECA Champion (2013, 2017). At the professional club level, he decided to play for ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

Shoji was a member of the Men’s Junior National Team in 2008 and 2009. He joined the senior national team in 2013 and helped the team win the gold medal at the NORCECA Championship.
